This beautiful, evocative and heartfelt devotional chanting of the Text of Ruchira Avatara Gita was made by Naamleela Free Jones, a daughter and devotee of Avatar Adi Da.
The recording was done in March 2001, at Temple Adi Da, on The Mountain Of Attention Pilgrimage And Retreat Sanctuary, in northern California.
Editor's Note: This article is in two sections. The first section, which extends through Pages 1 & 2, is an excerpt from the introduction to the Ruchira Avatara Gita, one of the 23 Divine "Source-Texts" of the Way of Adidam.
It discusses a universal law at work in our lives — "you become what you meditate on" — and why that law is the foundation of esoteric religious practice.
The second section, from Part Four of the Ruchira Avatara Gita, is an Essay by Avatar Adi Da titled "Beyond the Cultic Tendency in Religion and Spirituality, and in Secular Society".
In this Essay, Avatar Adi Da criticizes the childish and adolescent orientation of Guru-cultism — because that orientation is not capable of the achieving the true purpose of Guru-devotion: freedom from suffering, perfect Happiness, Divine Self-Realization.
The Living Divine Person Offers the Way of Devotional and Spiritual Relationship to Him
An Introduction to the Ruchira Avatara Gita (The Avataric Way Of The Divine Heart-Master)
by Jonathan Condit, Ph.D. (Senior Editorial Assistant to Avatar Adi Da Samraj)
The Ruchira Avatara Gita — the "Song of the 'Bright' Avatar" — is the Supreme Divine Offering to humankind. This Sacred Text is the Divine Person's Invitation, Given to all who would respond, to enter into direct heart-relationship with Him.
Especially in the West, religion is typically understood to be a matter of "what you believe". But Avatar Adi Da Samraj is not asking you to believe anything-about Him, about yourself, or about the world. In fact, He cautions you to be wary of "belief", as one of the means by which human egos attempt to console themselves.
Thus, in Offering you His Avataric Way, Adi Da Samraj is Offering not a system of beliefs, but a devotional and Spiritual relationship. As He has Confessed, He chose to Appear in the world (in bodily human Form) specifically in order to make this Offering.
He is here not to "legislate" what human beings should do, but to Radiate His Divine "Brightness" — and to Guide and Liberate all who respond to His Radiance.
To enter the Sphere of His Radiance, by embracing His Avataric Way, is to know the extreme and undoubtable Joy of Living Divine Communion.
It is to be shown the true and deep purpose of human existence, which the heart recognizes with a flood of Happiness.
And it is to embark upon the Graceful process of going beyond all forms of ego-limitation-the "gross" limitations of ordinary human bondage, the "subtle" limitations of mystical preoccupation, and the "causal" limitations of identification with the "inner self" — through the response to His "Bright" Divinity.
"You Become What You Meditate On"
The process that unfolds in Avatar Adi Da's Company is in no sense imaginary or based on wishful thinking. Rather, that process is based on the demonstrable laws and structures of psycho-physical existence.
Those laws and structures have been described by Avatar Adi Da with radically unprecedented comprehensiveness and precision-in His twenty-three "Source-Texts" (of which the Ruchira Avatara Gita is one).
And, unlike the characteristic efforts of scientific materialist investigation, Avatar Adi Da's descriptions account for the totality of existence, not merely the gross material domain.
Avatar Adi Da Calls human beings to observe that there is a very simple law at work in our lives. This law, quoted from the Essay in the Ruchira Avatara Gita, "The Great Esoteric Tradition of Devotion To The Adept-Realizer", is the reason why esoteric religious practice "works":
You become (or duplicate the qualities of) whatever you meditate on (or whatever you identify with via the "surrender" that is attention itself).
Thus, to state the matter very simply, when one spontaneously heart-recognizes Avatar Adi Da Samraj as the Incarnate Divine Person, one is naturally moved to "meditate on" Him, or to give Him one's attention.
Indeed, one is moved to turn to Him via all the human faculties — one's attention, one's emotional being, one's life of physical activity, and even one's breathing.
This process of turning to Him with one's entire being is the process by which His devotee "becomes" Him.
In other words, it is the process by which Avatar Adi Da ultimately Draws His devotee into the State of Perfect Identification with Him-His Divine State of Absolute and Permanent and Supremely Love-Bliss-Full Spiritual "Brightness".
This law — of "becoming what you meditate on" — has long been acknowledged to be the foundation of esoteric religious practice. And this law means that esoteric religious practice can be effective only if you find a true Spiritual Master to surrender to.
No "self-guided" process, undertaken without surrender to a true Spiritual Master, can be fruitful — because, in that case, you are simply "meditating on" your ego-self and "becoming" (or reinforcing your identification with) that same ego-self.

"Avatar Adi Da's Ruchira Avatara Gita has been carved out of the Heart of a great, presently living Master, out of compassion for aspiring humanity. I feel this Gita will be of immense help to aspirants for a divine life."
