Volume 2 of this unique set of DVDs is "The Grace of Suffering". In this talk from 1976, Avatar Adi Da makes clear that, no matter what the state of your life — whether apparently positive or apparently negative — there is always the present opportunity to enter into Communion with the Divine.
In the attached media clip, the questioner confesses his difficulty in maintaining the thread of practice while physically ill. In response, Avatar Adi Da humorously says, "There are no winners in God." In other words, sadhana (or practice in the Realizer's Company) is not about doing something "right" or "succeeding" in some manner.
Rather, He says, sadhana always shows you the failure of the search. And even though the devotee will never be perfected by practice, he or she does mature.
Especially at the beginning, Adi Da says, the devotee often finds himself or herself distracted by other interests or difficulties or experiences. Adi Da reassures the questioner that, if intelligence is available, noticing this identification with phenomena is useful — and it is an important lesson in the process of real practice.
In the continuous revelation of identification with phenomena at all levels, sadhana comes to be about True Freedom through sacrifice of "self".
